Most of you probably know that what LGBT is. Then, have you heard of Pride Parades? Pride Parades are events celebrating LGBT pride and culture. In the 1960s, the situation which LGBT people were facing was very harsh in America. On 28 June 1969, a gay bar called Stonewall Inn was attacked by police officers, but gay people made a strong stand against them.

Since then, this riot has led LGBT people to fight for their rights and triggered to hold pride parades. Such events are held all over the world, not only in Western countries but also in Japan. A pride parade named ” Tokyo Rainbow Pride” was held in Yoyogi park last Sunday.

“Tokyo Rainbow Pride” has been held since 2012 and the scale is getting bigger and bigger. In the period called “Pride Week”, there are various kinds of programs like the social gathering, entertainments, club parties, exhibitions, hands-on experiences and more!

Unfortunately, “Tokyo Rainbow Pride 2018” is already over, but hopefully you’ll visit and join other LGBT events. Now I can hear some voices saying “Why should I spare time for such things although I’m not even a person concerned with this issue?”

To the people who would say these things, I would like to say “Well, just try to go and you’ll be surprised and shocked in a sense.” To join them and to see the fact through your own eyes will be a kind of advantage for you because you’ll be surprised how your knowledge are small and full of misunderstandings. And if you are not so serious about it, it’s also okay and you can still enjoy.

Lastly, let me remind you that being a minority does NOT mean you are the weak of society and vice versa. Love and equality.

Thank you very much for reading!

  1. LGBT is a very complex issue that has been overlooked.
Since there were not enough understandings of the people who are LGBTs, they often got discriminated and got left behind in the society. Now that there are many motions towards LGBT, I am looking forward to a society where every one can live happily.

  2. Recently, a statement about LGBT of one member of the Diet caused a scandal. I strongly disagree her opinion that LGBT people is not productive.
