6th July 2018. This is the day which the most brutal case in Heisei era has terminated.
On July 6th in Japan, seven members of Aum cult, which carried out brutal attack in Tokyo 1995, were executed, including the leader Shoko Asahara.
The incident is famously known as Tokyo Attack. It was a toxic chemical attack on the Tokyo Subway and caused 29 casualties and 6500 injured.
After the attack, members of the cult scattered and went missing. It took 17 years to terminate the investigation. Through several trials, a death sentence was handed down to 13 leading members. Then, six years later on July 6th the execution of seven members took place at a Tokyo detention house.
Another six members of the cult were still on death row.
A group which carried out Tokyo Attack, Aum Shinrikyo, is a Japanese doomsday cult founded by Chizuo Matsumoto a.k.a. Shoko Asahara in 1984.
The group committed not only Tokyo Attack, but also several cruel crimes such as Sakamoto familiy murder that some members of Aum killed the family who suspected danger of the group and Matsumoto sarin attack.
After arrested, Shoko Asahara had said nothing about cases, even a word of an apology. I can’t imagine enough how mortified and depressed the victims’ families feel.
It is concerned that Asahara might be deified because of execution by the group of successors. I just hope such brutal cases will never happen again.
